Scotia Plaza Child Care Centre is one of the George Brown Colleges operated lab schools. The centre offers programs for the children aged six weeks through to five years of age. There is a capacity for seventy-three children to be divided into four groups:
Infants - Six weeks to eighteen months
Toddlers - Eighteen months to two and a half years
Preschool - Two and a half to four years old and,
Kindergarten - Four and five year olds.
The centre is located at 104 Yonge Street in the heart of the downtown core. The families who attend the centre come from various walks of life.
The centre opened in the fall of 1989 and the Scotia Plaza Child Care Centre functions as a laboratory school for the Early Childhhod Development and Early Childhood Assistant programs of George Brown College.
Scotia Plaza Child Care Centre offers warm and consistent care for young children. Teachers balance cognitive, social, emotional and physical aspects of experience in group planning, as well as assisting to meet the individual differences in development and learning style.
The Scotia Plaza Child Care Centre operates five days a week from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. The centre is closed for statutory holidays and also between Christmas and New Year. The staff at the centre consists of a manager, eight trained Early Childhood Educators, two Early Childhood Assistants and a cook. There is also a resource teacher who rotates between the eight centres that George Brown runs.
